About the course

This course provides an in-depth understanding of reporting for sustainability. The course discusses the importance of sustainability metrics, the role of accounting, and the risks of greenwashing. It also covers transparency in communications and the presentation of sustainability reporting. The course will enable learners to understand how financial reporting can help drive corporate sustainability programs, build stakeholder trust, and reduce accusations of greenwashing.

Instructor

Sustainable Finance Expert Stephen Kibsey

Stephen is an investment professional with over thirty years of experience in various roles such as analyst, portfolio manager, and risk manager at different organizations including one of Canada's largest investment institutions, CDPQ, and one of Canada's largest corporate pension funds, BIMCOR. He has been actively involved in responsible investment and played a key role in the creation of the Sustainable Investment Professional Certificate and the Sustainability Ecosystem at Concordia University. He has also lectured on risk management in investment portfolio construction and sustainability finance and accounting at McGill University and Queen's University. Stephen has been a member of various panels and initiatives such as the Mining Association of Canada-Community of Interest Panel and the Finance and Sustainability Initiative in Montreal. He holds multiple degrees including a Bachelor of Science in Physiology, a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining, an MBA, and a SIPC. Stephen was also a CFA from 1991 to 2019 and has been recognized as a Brendan-Wood Top Gun portfolio manager from 2008-2010. He currently provides ESG coaching and mentoring services to various organizations after retiring from his career in investment management.
